Chapter Eleven

Jonah

Staring at the files on the bed in front of me, my gut churns, and my anger boils. I don’t know how many, but from the gist of these papers, I’m a hundred percent sure there are quite a few dirty officers on the force here in Stonewall Mills.

With my sister being one of those officers' target, Jensen and I will have to step in. We won’t let her be put in danger. She’s lost enough as it is. It’s why she’s getting the surgery today.

I pick up my cell phone to check the time. It’s almost time to head out and meet Jade before the operation. Viper’s gonna get Jade to the hospital outpatient surgery sector, much to my dismay. From what Jensen’s told me and I have read for myself, the man was set up for something, but what? No one serves five years for a simple drug charge. Having met Viper, he doesn’t seem the type who’d allow himself that much time for drugs. Hell, the man doesn’t even look like an addict. My gut is screaming at me. This whole thing is a coverup for something a hell of a lot bigger, and I wanna know what it is.

“You done looking over those files?” Jensen asks, breaking through my train of thought.

Blinking, I meet my brother’s gaze. “Yeah, but this shit ain’t right.”

“I know. It’s why I’m having it looked into. I’m not with the IA anymore, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have friends there. Or men who owe me a favor,” Jensen states, shrugging his cut over his shoulders.

The day Jensen had told me he was leaving the bureau to join an MC, he shocked the hell out of me. Not because it was an MC, but rather my big brother had always dreamed of being on the force. Said he wanted that brotherhood you get. Now he’s got that with those in his club. Shit, I’m even tempted some days to leave my department, but I’ve got a good partner, and I love my job. Michael and I are a good pair. Roman and Zain are two others we work with and have all grown close.

“So, we gonna go find a way to help our sister’s man?” I cringe at the idea of Jade being with anyone. When I look at her, sure, I know she’s a woman, but in my eyes, she’ll always be my baby sister.

“Viper’s a good man. I’ve spoken with Stoney about him. He wouldn’t be a part of the Devil’s Riot MC if he’d killed a woman,” Jensen mentions as he checks the holster he wears under his cut.

The two of us are nearly dressed the same in dark-washed jeans and boots. Where I’m wearing a green Henley, Jensen’s wearing a blue. Both of us have a holster. Jensen’s is under his cut, and mine is under a zip-up hoodie. I’ve been around the block enough to know not to ever travel anywhere without being armed.
